"It is one of the worst of errors to suppose that there is any path for safety except that of duty."
~William Nevins
Swimming pool facilities involve maintenance and supervision especially when precious little ones are in the vicinity. Pool Ninjas can only help protect your paradise from the spread of diseases we cannot prevent accidents from happening to your family or friends. That duty is yours and below we have listed some important information to help you with that duty.
- Never leave your children alone in or near the pool, even for a moment.
- While there is no substitute for adult supervision, safeguards and barriers around pools and hot tubs provide additional protection for children. Install a fence at least 4 feet high around all 4 sides of the pool. This fence will completely separate the pool from the house and play area of the yard. If possible use gates that self-close and self-latch, with latches higher than your children's reach.
- Alarms can be installed to protect against unauthorized entry onto the deck area as well as into the water itself.
- Do not let your child use air-filled "swimming aids" because thy are not a substitute for approved life vests and can provide a false sense of security.
- Ensure that suction outlets (main drains) in pools and spas are safely constructed, in place, and maintained. Only allow swimming when the bottom of the pool or it's main-drain is clearly visible.
- Anyone watching young children around a pool should learn CPR and be able to rescue a child if needed. Stay within an arm's lengths of your child.
- Evacuate the pool and deck area during electrical storms.
- Do not allow anyone to swim if they have had diarrhea within the last two weeks.
- Use swim pants for infants in diapers or other individuals that may be incontinent.
- Practice good hygiene by showering before swimming and washing hands after using restrooms.
- Encourage children to take regular bathroom breaks.
- Dive or jump only in a in a straight line from the end of the diving board.
- Only allow one person on the diving board at a time.
- Avoid using all glass containers around the pool.
- Warn individuals to refrain from alcohol consumption before and while swimming.
- Keep safety and rescue equipment easily accessible around the pool.
